Salary structure
How a salary is split. Gross is not the number payroll runs on: provident fund, gratuity, statutory bonus and leave encashment are all computed on wages, so the split between basic, allowances and reimbursements decides what those cost.

What the screen tells you
Gross is not the number payroll runs on. Provident fund, gratuity, statutory bonus and leave encashment are computed on wages - basic plus dearness allowance plus retaining allowance - and if the other allowances come to more than half of gross, the excess counts as wages anyway. So the split matters, and the bar below is the number to watch.
